Serving Brevard & Indian River County, FL — Florida's Space Coast & Treasure Coast
The classic Mediterranean roof — a half-century-plus of life and unmatched curb appeal.
About Clay Tile
Clay tile is the iconic Florida roof — terra-cotta barrel tile on stucco homes from Vero Beach to Melbourne Beach, beautifully aging, often outlasting the original homeowner. Done right, a clay tile roof can easily exceed 50 years of service and dramatically increases home value in tile-friendly neighborhoods.
Clay tile is fired natural earth, which is why the color doesn't fade — it's the material itself, not a coating. We install S-tile (barrel/Spanish profile), flat tile, and double-Roman profiles in glazed and unglazed finishes. Each home gets a custom underlayment system (typically self-adhered modified bitumen) because under tile, the underlayment is the actual water barrier — the tile is the long-life UV shield.
Tile is heavy — roughly 900–1,100 lbs per square (100 sq ft) — so your roof structure has to be engineered for it. We verify framing capacity before quoting any conversion from shingle to tile, and we'll tell you honestly if it isn't a candidate.
Clay performs exceptionally well in Florida heat: the curved profile creates an air gap that ventilates the underlayment and keeps attic temperatures lower than any other roofing material we install.
Pros
- 50+ year lifespan — often outlives the home's original ownership
- Color never fades (it's the fired clay itself)
- Best heat performance of any roofing material we install
- Fire-resistant, rot-proof, insect-proof
- Dramatically increases home value in tile neighborhoods
Cons / Trade-offs
- Premium upfront cost
- Heavy — requires adequate roof structure
- Individual tiles can crack from impact or foot traffic
- Underlayment may need replacement every 20–25 years even though tiles last 50+
Best for
Mediterranean, Spanish, and Old-Florida style homes; high-value properties; long-term owners who want a heritage roof.
Why it works across Brevard & Indian River County
Tile thrives on the Space Coast. The shape vents naturally, the material doesn't corrode in salt air, and properly fastened tile rides out hurricanes well. The catch is the underlayment underneath — that's the water barrier, and it needs to be installed correctly the first time.

How long does a clay tile roof last in Florida?+
The tile itself lasts 50+ years. The underlayment beneath it (the actual waterproof layer) typically needs replacement around 20–25 years — we can lift, re-underlay, and re-set the original tile to extend the roof's life dramatically.
Will my house support a tile roof?+
Tile weighs roughly 900–1,100 lbs per 100 sq ft. Most homes originally built with shingle need a structural review before converting to tile. We check this before quoting and will tell you honestly if it's not a fit.
Does the color fade on clay tile?+
No — the color is fired into the natural clay, not painted on. Clay tile looks the same in year 40 as it did in year one.
How much does clay tile cost in Brevard County?+
Most clay tile roofs in Brevard and Indian River County run $18,000–$40,000+ depending on profile, structure, and complexity. Call (321) 550-2272 for a free estimate.
Can clay tile survive a hurricane?+
Properly fastened clay tile has performed well in named storms across Florida for over a century. The critical factor is the underlayment and fastening system underneath.
