About Asphalt Shingles

Asphalt shingles are the most common residential roofing material on Florida's Space Coast — and for good reason. They balance upfront cost, curb appeal, and proven hurricane performance when the right product is paired with a code-compliant nailing pattern and modern underlayment.

There are two main grades we install: 3-tab shingles (a flat, traditional look at the lowest price point) and architectural / dimensional shingles (thicker, layered, with a more pronounced shadow line and stronger wind ratings). For Brevard and Indian River County homes, we recommend architectural shingles in nearly every case — the upgrade in wind warranty and visual depth is well worth the modest cost difference.

We install GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed asphalt systems with wind warranties up to 130 mph (and 150 mph with enhanced fastening). Every install includes synthetic underlayment, peel-and-stick at eaves and valleys, and ring-shank nails — the Florida Building Code minimums that make the difference between a roof that survives a named storm and one that doesn't.

Expect roughly 15–25 years of useful life from a quality architectural shingle in coastal Florida. Sun exposure, salt air, and afternoon thunderstorms shorten shingle life compared to inland states, which is why proper attic ventilation and ridge venting matter as much as the shingle itself.

Why it works across Brevard & Indian River County

Wind rating is everything on the Space Coast. We only install shingles with at least a 130 mph wind warranty, use 6-nail fastening patterns, and run peel-and-stick membrane along eaves, valleys, and penetrations — the details that keep insurance carriers (and your roof) happy after a hurricane.

Asphalt Shingles Roofing — FAQ

How long do asphalt shingles last in Florida?+

A quality architectural shingle with proper ventilation typically lasts 15–25 years on Florida's Space Coast. Sun, salt, and storm exposure shorten lifespan compared to inland or northern climates.

What's the difference between 3-tab and architectural shingles?+

3-tab shingles are single-layer and flat-looking, with a shorter warranty. Architectural (dimensional) shingles are thicker, multi-layered, have a stronger wind warranty, and look significantly more upscale. We recommend architectural for almost every Florida home.

Are asphalt shingles strong enough for hurricanes?+

Yes — when installed to current Florida Building Code with the correct nailing pattern, synthetic underlayment, and peel-and-stick membrane. We install shingles rated for 130–150 mph winds.

How much does a shingle roof cost in Brevard County?+

Most asphalt shingle replacements in Brevard and Indian River County run $8,000–$15,000 for a standard single-family home. Call (321) 550-2272 for a free on-site estimate.

Will my insurance cover a shingle replacement?+

If your roof has hurricane, hail, or windstorm damage, most Florida homeowners policies will cover replacement minus your deductible. We document damage and work directly with your adjuster.
